What are baby sensory videos? How do they help babies with enhancing visual stimulation?

Baby sensory videos have become increasingly popular with new parents on YouTube. In some cases, they become a part of a baby’s daily routine! Sensory videos are praised for their ability to visually stimulate our little ones through the use of bright, high contrast colours, shapes and patterns. Paired with specially selected music to encourage movement through auditory stimulation. With this increasing trend and development in this field, there are now a wide variety of engaging videos you can play for your child. These videos vary from calming tunes to help your child wind down, to animated, high energy videos that encourage your child to move and dance! It is a fun way to help your them develop as they become more curious about what they are watching.

How do baby sensory videos help your child in its development?

Sensory videos increase a child’s visual and auditory stimulation. This is because the shapes, songs and sounds are composed specifically for this purpose. Following the shapes and colours moving around on screen helps your child with eye coordination, while the music promotes rhythm and movement. These videos can also help your baby calm down when they are frustrated and sooth them before or during nap time. For each of these activities, there is a specific sensory video.

Mechanosensory stimulation is a very important part of a child’s growth and development. Research has shown that a newborn child’s brain develops 2-3 million synapses with each passing second. It is these synapses which forge the route for sensory messages to reach the brain. Therefore, the more synapses the brain uses, the faster they become permanent. If these synapses are left unused, they would be ‘pruned’. In simple terms, pruning prevents information overload by cutting out the non-functional pathways. So sensory stimulation is an important factor in the development of sensory pathways, which promote normal growth for young children.

At what age can your child watch these videos?

Well, there is no definitive answer for this. Enabling your baby to watch these sensory videos would be ideal up until toddlerhood. Once they become toddlers, there are a large variety of sensory videos that are available to learn from, but they will also take inspiration from the world around them.

A little about us.

As parents, we found high contrast imagery and music invaluable during the early months and years. Our daughter was dancing along from 9 months old, which inspired us to create our own characters and, by extension, our own videos! Each character has been designed to dance in the season its grown in. Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.

The idea behind Greenhouse Sensory is simple, use videos to help with cognitive development, then transition from digital to physical... From Video to something they can touch, feel and play with!

Note: All video's and toys have been quality assessed by our little sprout before posting. We hope you and your baby enjoy them as much as we've enjoyed making them!
